Media creates a storm over Puerto Rico recovery

Trump bashing San Juan mayorPresident Donald Trump visited hurricane-stricken Puerto Rico on Tuesday as the left-wing news media created its own storm of accusations.

CNN and MSNBC have been particularly critical according to Curtis Houck, managing editor of Newsbusters, because the liberal media wants to ignore the difficulty of aiding the Caribbean island.

There is also a media habit, he says, of creating comparisons.

"They are with Bush and (Hurricane) Katrina and with this hurricane, comparing it to Irma and Harvey that hit the mainland U.S., when in reality everything is different in life," he says. "No two things are the same."

The mainstream media failed to whack Trump for the federal government's back-to-back efforts in Texas and Florida but the destruction of Puerto Rico offered another opportunity.

"Trump's racism is costing lives," MSNBC host Mike Brzenzinski tweeted.

English comedian John Oliver called Trump's response "horribly racist."

A post-hurricane story at Reason.com reported those left-wing reactions as well as the Trump administration's actual response, such as a $40 million federal grant for emergency road repairs and $20 million from FEMA for public assistance.

After stating the response hasn't been "perfect," Reason editor Christian Britschgi goes on to suggest that the Left demands a huge federal government but complains when that bureaucratic government has to move quickly.

Houck tells OneNewsNow the media was looking for an emotional response to boost ratings.

"They're trying to draw a rise out of people," he claims, "that CNN can then play for six, 12, 24, 48 hours in a row with the same chyron, with the same Puerto Rican mayor or citizen having an emotional outburst at the President and this administration."

Echoing the Reason story, Houck says he's not claiming the federal government's response has been perfect but that critics need to consider the post-hurricane disaster, which he calls "apocalyptic."
