A conservative TV watchdog is partnering with a media and blogging site for women to advocate for more positive media images of young girls.

Parents Television Council is joining the organization Plaid for Women, Inc. in a new campaign called "No Mean Girls." PTC president Tim Winter says they are very concerned about a frightening trend taking place on TV.

Winter

"You see girls fighting amongst themselves - sometimes physically - actually getting into fights,” he explains. “You see them bullying each other, harassing each other. And it's almost like there's this whole new theme being perpetrated by Hollywood to the public where they're trying to glamorize and glorify harsh, mean, vicious behavior among women."

PTC partner Plaid for Women says the campaign aims to “stop the psychological warfare we aim at one another via being ‘mean girls.’" Winter says the No Mean Girls campaign aligns with PTC’s goal to “help combat those negative and harmful images” portrayed by media.

"The intention is to try to encourage girls to support one another,” he tells OneNewsNow. “To try to encourage women to be more supportive and positive for one another, as opposed to demeaning and degrading and pulling each other down."

This new campaign is in addition to the PTC's "4 Every Girl Campaign." The group says it's trying to call attention to negative trends and reverse the sexualized media messages that are having a devastating impact on young girls.
