A traditional values group says a religious freedom lawsuit that's been filed against Texas reveals the truth about what abortion really is.
The Satanic Temple's lawsuit is based on a complaint that Texas' laws and regulations violate the Temple's constitutionally-protected right to freedom of religion. Mary Elizabeth Castle, a policy adviser for Texas Values, tells One News Now the Satanic group is using that argument to vie for abortion, their modern-day version of child sacrifice.
"That's actually what the Satanic Temple is claiming in their lawsuit -- that abortion to them is child sacrifice -- which is ironic because that is what we in the pro-life movement have been saying for a long time," Castle comments. "It's very interesting that the Satanic Temple is basically admitting the horrific reality of abortion, that it is the killing of children."
In her opinion, the lawsuit is a frivolous one that will cost the satanists a great deal in legal fees.
"I think they're going to dismiss this case," the pro-lifer predicts. "It's not a legitimate religious belief; they can't prove that it's a sincere religious belief. And, of course, the court would never defend the killing or sacrificing of human beings at any stance, whether it's religious liberty or any other claim."
The Satanic Temple's case relies on the federal Religious Freedom Restoration Act.
