child playing with blocksAlarm bells are going off in Democrat-dominated California over an education bill that would force parents to surrender their young children to a public school kindergarten.

Mandatory enrollment in California schools is not required until the first grade, making kindergarten optional, but pro-family activists are watching a Senate bill, SB 70, that makes kindergarten mandatory if it becomes law.

The ongoing left-wing indoctrination of California students is documented almost daily, so pro-family groups are not surprised at the legislation, but they are alarmed to witness Leftists target the youngest of young minds regardless of parental rights.

"It's this whole idea,” says Greg Burt of the California Family Institute, “that parents aren't responsible enough to decide these things for themselves, and that the government knows best, that we're got the experts and we shouldn't leave that decision up to parents."

The state senate bill got the attention of Homeschool Legal Defense Association, which issued an Action Alert over the attempt to “expand government control over children – for both public and private school (homeschools).”

Parents who enroll their children in private schools, or who homeschool, would not be exempt from the law, HSLDA pointed out.

"I think a lot of parents (who) usually put their kids in kindergarten--it's not going to concern them,” Burt says. “It's the parents who like the education freedom, (who) value that the most, who are protesting the most."
