According to Lindsey Burke, Ph.D., director of education policy for The Heritage Foundation, research proves the Head Start preschool program initiated in 1964 was an utter failure. In his joint address to Congress last week, Biden proposed spending $200 billion on free, universal preschool for five million children ages 3 and 4. Burke predicts that will fail as well.

"I think what we're much more likely to see is that a federal, universal preschool program is going to resemble the failing Head Start Program, which unfortunately has not served children well for more than half a century now," she shares with One News Now.

The $200 billion budgeted for Biden's proposed program, she says, barely touches what the total cost would be.

Burke

"To call it massive doesn't even scratch the surface if you compare it to the Department of Education's typical, annual discretionary budget, which is about $72 billion a year," she explains. "This is orders of magnitude beyond that just for a single proposal."

Biden also called for $109 billion for two years of free community college for American students, $80 billion in Pell Grants, and $62 billion to study completion/retention rates for college students from disadvantaged communities.

Burke points out the total cost of education in Biden's "American Families Plan," when childcare and other benefits and costs are added in, amounts to a staggering $748 billion.
