Abraham Lincoln HS in SFAbraham Lincoln High School in San Francisco is scheduled to be renamed after the school district's committee declared America's 16th president – who was known as "The Great Emancipator" – "did not demonstrate that black lives mattered to him."

Abraham Lincoln – who is considered an American hero for abolishing slavery in the United States more than 150 years ago – is just one of 44 historical figures soon to have their names scratched off schools within the San Francisco Unified School District. The renaming movement, according to the Daily Mail, is "part of a nationwide reckoning around racial justice."

Fox News contributor Lawrence Jones weighed in on "Fox &Friends."

"The most problematic point of this, on both sides of the debate, is that people don't understand history. They all want to pick and choose what portions to cover," he stated.

revising historyJones said the American school system's "rose-colored" curriculum is partially to blame, and he called for the need to teach the complete story.

"History is a complicated thing," the Fox News commentator continued. "People have some good and bad to their legacy, but the bottom line is [Lincoln] freed the slaves – and for black people during that period of time, he acknowledged their quest for freedom."

President Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863.

Other schools named after historical figures on the chopping block include George Washington, Herbert Hoover, Thomas Edison – and even California's Democratic Senator Dianne Feinstein, for allowing the Confederate flag to fly outside City Hall more than 35 years ago when she served as mayor.
