Thinker statueThe ongoing effort to push “white guilt” on American college students may have been outdone at the University of Minnesota, where students were recently subjected to a literal 12-step program.

The College Fix appeared to be the first to report on the “Recovering from White Conditioning” lecture that was hosted by the school’s Center for Practice Transformation.

The speaker was a white university alumnus, Cristina Combs, who compared her own white-centered mindset to the “white supremacy” of the Ku Klux Klan. What prevented Combs from understanding how minorities see her as a white supremacist, she said, was her own ego that refused to accept the truth.

“Stepping into that tension and accepting my connection to white supremacy,” Combs said, “has been a freedom of sorts to show up in better alignment with my values and do the work for the rest of my life.”

Matt Lamb of The College Fix says Combs’ program began with the premise that anyone who is white is complicit with racism.

"And then it just gets worse,” he says. “And, of course, you probably noticed that the 12 steps course is popularized by groups like Alcoholics Anonymous. So it basically compares whiteness to a disease or an addiction."

Tuition at the University of Minnesota costs as much as $50,000 annually, Lamb says, so parents might want to think twice about sending their tuition dollars to such a school.
