policeman by patrol carA school security expert is addressing the movement seeking to abolish campus police, saying the majority of schools are refusing to get "sucked into that political rabbit hole."

Behind Oakland, schools in Minneapolis, Portland, Denver and Seattle over the past month have defunded or ended contracts with police. Ken Trump of the National School Safe and Security Service thinks this measure is putting politics ahead of pupils.

"If they're talking about programs that aren't working and throwing out the police, throw out their school administrators [too]," Trump reasons. "School administrators are, by definition, partners in school resource officer programs."

While there is a growing demand across the nation to keep cops out of schools, the security specialist believes this isn't going to snowball.

"The good news is we have the majority of school districts around the country with school-based policing programs that stood up and said it's not a question here. We're not evicting our officers," Trump continues. "They serve a very preventative relationship-building role with students – and we're not going to get sucked into that political rabbit hole.”

According to the safety expert, schools abolishing resource officers are going to see increased safety risks, increased security incidents and increased civil litigation in the future.
