'Radical left' policy would leave parents of minors in the dark

California Teachers AssociationAn attorney in California is warning it's conceivable that the state could enact a law pushed by a teachers' union that would allow minors in public schools to be able to receive hormone sex-change therapy without the consent of parents or guardians.

According to The Epoch Times, the California Teachers Association changed a policy last month allowing students to receive birth control and sex-change hormones without parental permission. That report quotes the policy as now reading:

"CTA believes comprehensive school-based health care clinics are needed to bring caring and responsive services to young people. The clinics shall provide cisgender, transgender and non-binary youth equal and confidential access to decision-making rights for students and their families."

The Epoch Times notes that even though the updated policy doesn't specifically mention "hormone therapy," a discussion by the CTA's civil rights committee of the rationale for the policy change "indicates that's the final goal."

OneNewsNow spoke with attorney Brad Dacus of the Pacific Justice Institute, who points out that legislation would have to be passed to mandate schools to do this – but …

Dacus

"Can it become law in California? Oh yes," he states. "There are enough radicals to the left [in the Legislature who are] beholden to the LGBTQ agenda that something like this could easily become law."

While CTA spokesperson Claudia Briggs claims the intent is not to "circumvent parents or guardians," Dacus argues that is exactly what this policy is all about.

"The CTA wants to undermine parents – and in a very grotesque way – by allowing children to leave school without parents knowing about it for transgender/transformational purposes," he emphasizes.

The Epoch Times reports parents and community leaders expressed concerns to the Orange County Board of Education in February regarding the policy. One mom is quoted as saying she's worried that schools are teaching children "gender is a decision based on emotions." She also warned that even though it might seem "very peaceful" in the U.S., "there is a war currently in the minds of our kids."
