high school teacher calling on studentConcerns are being raised about a move by the secretary of education that some believe may be taking the U.S. toward a European philosophy of education.

Jane Robbins of the American Principles Project (APP) says the agreement with the Swiss government fits in with Secretary DeVos' vision of merging the Departments of Labor and Education to create a centralized workforce development model. However, Robbins doubts this memorandum is even enforceable.

"It's not something Congress has approved, but it does give us a window into her thinking about education and which way education should be going," Robbins comments. "And I'm not sure we like what we see."

Robbins, Jane (APP)Breitbart reports this workforce development model of education encourages a view of children as prospective laborers who can inexpensively fulfill the needs of big business.

"That is not something that is in keeping with American principles," the APP senior fellow asserts. "That's in keeping with 1930s Europe, the principle that the government and … powerful corporations should be colluding to scratch each other's backs."

One of President Trump's campaign promises involved giving states and local governments more control over education.
