If you can't beat the Bible, 'queer' it instead

Queen James BibleA private college in California is offering a course called "Queer Theory and the Bible" in, of all places, its religious studies department.

Faithwire.com reports that Pomona College, located in Claremont, is offering the one-credit course taught by Dr. Erin Runons, chair of the religious students department at the college of approximately 1,700 undergraduate students.

Peter Sprigg of the Family Research Council says the professor is using a far-left technique known as "queering" to challenge Bible passages about homosexuality.

"It's an effort," he says, "to subvert the traditional, historic view of the Bible."

Sprigg, Peter (FRC)It's nothing new to see the Bible challenged and mocked on a college campus, by a skeptical professor, for the claims and proclamations it makes. But the "Queer Theory" course takes those verses and claims they don't mean what they plainly state.

The course description states:

We will also look at the ways in which these discourses and the identities they shore up can be ‘queered,’ as well as at biblical texts that can be read as queer friendly. This process of queering will allow and require us to approach the biblical text in new ways.

Sprigg tells OneNewsNow that is nothing more than indoctrination, which has no place in a college's educational program.

"It's imposing a very modern sort of worldview on a very ancient text," Sprigg tells OneNewsNow. "And that's perhaps what's most troubling about this."
