principal's nameplate on deskA left-leaning principal in San Francisco, California, appears to be more concerned with diversity than she is with democracy.

Everett Middle School Principal Lena Van Haren peeved parents and students alike when she withheld the results of student government elections for a week because she said the outcomes lacked diversity. Brad Dacus of the Pacific Justice Institute says she's ignoring the vital democratic voting process.

“It’s a case of those in the higher-up deciding for you who and what is best for you in terms of public service,” he explains. “And that is an atrocity for the whole concept of teaching kids - through the student council process - the concept of a republican, democratic form of government.”

The attorney says this incident is the epitome of racism at its worst.

Dacus, Brad (PJI)“You have a principal so dead-set on having kids of different races in different positions that she completely ignores the whole process by which all students of all ethnic backgrounds chose to elect certain candidates for those positions,” he summarizes.

One student told KRON TV that there was no indication the vote had been rigged. But he complained that now it is being rigged by the principal.
