pregnant African-American womanA study has been released that disputes the idea abortion is needed for healthy family planning.

The study was done by the Charlotte Lozier Institute which examined Medicaid records to track the pregnancy of women and examine if they were using abortions to plan their family.

Lozier spokeswoman Dr. Tessa Longbons says Medicaid does not pay for abortions but 17 states use their tax dollars to pay for it. So the researchers looked at those states and, in particular, studied the progress of more than 4.8 million women and their pregnancies.

“We followed them up to five different pregnancy outcomes,” she says, “to see what sort of pregnancy outcomes they had.”

Lozier wanted to know if women were using abortions to space their births apart, which is a common claim of abortion supporters, and the conclusion is very few women, in fact, did that.

“In this population of women, with at least one pregnancy,” Longbons says, “only 1% had two live births separated by abortions.”
