About four years ago, then-Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam (R) vetoed a bill that would have established the Bible as the state book over legal concerns. Now, Representative Jerry Sexton (R) is sponsoring House Joint Resolution 150, the adoption of which Family Action Council of Tennessee (FACT) President David Fowler says would not break any laws.

"It is not worded as an altar call for everybody to read the Bible and repent like Paul said in Acts chapter 17," Fowler asserts. "But it's noting how important the Bible has been throughout the history of the state of Tennessee in all of its respects, and it recognizes Bible publishers in the state and their impact on Tennessee."

Fowler

He adds that the resolution recognizes that no other book could measure up to the Bible "in all respects by which a book might be measured."

And this measure is not the only Christian-influenced idea currently floating through the state legislature.

"There's a resolution up here that has a number of sponsors on it that would name 'Amazing Grace' by Dolly Parton as the official state song,” the FACT president reports.

If The Volunteer State can officially recognize the significance and historical impact of two insects, the firefly and the lady beetle, then Fowler wonders why it cannot do the same for the Bible.
