surrogacy pregnancy (use inside story only)A global interfaith coalition "equipping Christians to defend the family and build a civilization of love" says New York's new surrogacy law ignores the rights of children.

Governor Andrew Cuomo (D) has signed into New York state law a surrogacy bill -- a rent-a-womb measure of sorts that legalizes commercial, gestational surrogacy -- the buying and selling of newborns.

Dr. Jennifer Morse of the Ruth Institute tells One News Now her organization objects to Senate Bill S2071B on the grounds of protecting the rights of children to know their identity and to have a relationship with their natural mother and father.

"This new law in New York state actually refers to the child's mother and father as gamete providers. So the person who provides an egg is not the child's mother; that is the gamete provider," Dr. Morse explains. "The person who provides the sperm is not the father; that is the sperm provider."

Homosexuals celebrated the measure's passage, which is understandable, considering their unnatural lifestyle cannot produce children.

"It's certainly true that this particular piece of legislation was promoted heavily by the LGBT lobby – there's no doubt that that's true," Dr. Morse relays. "But the Ruth Institute's position is very clear that this is wrong for anyone to use."

The measure essentially turns children into commodities who are bought through a contract with a woman who is willing to carry the baby to term. Morse says Governor Cuomo could not get it approved last April, so he hid it in an appropriations bill, which did pass.
