two business womenAn organization that fights sexual exploitation hopes corporate America will mimic a professional sports team's recent action for integrity, ethical behavior, and moral courage.

Sommer Porter of the National Center on Sexual Exploitation (NCOSE) says calling someone "out" after one strike would not fly on the baseball field. But Jared Porter, whom the New York Mets recently fired just 37 days after hiring him as general manager, is an example of how Major League Baseball approves of the philosophy in another way.

"In 2016, there was a general manager for the [Chicago] Cubs at the time, and he was in contact with a foreign [female] reporter who had come to the U.S. to report," the NCOSE executive explains.

While they were in contact over the next few months, Jared Porter allegedly sent more than 60 harassing and explicit photos to the journalist. The Chicago Cubs insists they were unaware of Porter's actions until his most recent employer fired him. The NCOSE thinks the Mets made the right decision, and the organization hopes others follow the team's lead.

"We hope that other corporations, other entities -- not just baseball teams or the sports world in general, but all corporations and entities -- really take the Mets' example and … take a stand when they see this type of behavior happening within their ranks, that they take a stand and they are able to use their voice in their platform," Sommer Porter says.

She points out that when the appropriate action is not taken, then the individual remains victimized, and the company's lack of action condones that.
