pregnant woman handThe future has already begun for pro-life pregnancy centers, and it has been especially beneficial to women and their babies since before the pandemic began.

In 2018, the Human Coalition launched virtual counseling for its pregnancy centers, allowing women with unplanned pregnancies to utilize telehealth to communicate online with a pro-life nurse. So the weekend after the coronavirus shutdowns began, all Human Coalition centers were already equipped for the new normal, and spokesperson Angie Ivey explains that Coalition operators have stayed busy.

"[We] had a 42 percent call increase when the COVID-19 hit," Ivey reports. "We had had women who lost jobs unexpectedly, as well as facing unexpected pregnancies at the same time, which caused the panic."

Women were able to call in from home and begin obtaining aid for their most pressing needs.

"Helping them find jobs, helping them with resources they were needing," Ivey lists. "Maybe they're needing a food bank. Maybe they were needing help finding medical needs -- that type of thing. And also just counseling them with their fear of having an unplanned pregnancy."

The end result was a dramatic uptick in women making the vital decision to fulfill their pregnancies and choose life for their children. So the experiment is no longer an experiment; it has proven itself. And Ivey says virtual telehealth is now a solid part of the future for the Human Coalition.
