Rodriguez offers plan to defuse immigration debate
A leader among evangelical Hispanics contends the compromise he's calling for on border security and illegal immigration is a plan that can work.
Nicole Hudgens with Texas Values tells OneNewsNow the City of Leander has cancelled a “Drag Queen Story Time” after public outcry.
She suggests the complaints may have poured in after neighboring city Houston unknowingly welcomed convicted sex offenders to its drag queen event in March.
OneNewsNow reported in a May 31 story that two sex offenders were allowed to participate at the Houston Public Library, and their criminal past was uncovered after the event and only after conservative group MassResistance began digging into their records.
Leander, a city of approximately 50,000, is a suburb of Austin.
According to a story from ABC News affiliate KVUE, Leander cancelled its own drag queen event due to “feedback” from the community.
A statement from Mayor Troy Hill stated in part that a contractor who operates the library chose to “wade into social issues water” without approval from the city, and what came next was “predictable outrage.”
According to Hudgens, a Leander church has stepped forward to rent a library room to host the drag queen event.
The church, Open Cathedral, describes itself as a “progressive” church affiliated with the liberal United Church of Christ.
Hudgens says the purpose of the drag queen story times is to “entice” children and parents should be aware of the risk.
