With the Christmas shopping season in high gear, the Parents Television Council has released its annual Best and Worst TV Advertisers list.
PTC spokeswoman Melissa Henson says Proctor & Gamble, Walmart, Smuckers, Hershey's, and Coca-Cola are among the companies producing ads with positive content and avoiding controversial TV programs.
"They're not perfect --- no company is--- so occasionally they make mistakes," she observes. "But I think that those companies have also demonstrated that they will recognize when they've made a mistake and they will quickly correct course."
Consistently showing up on the Worst list are companies such as Yum! Brands, Subway, Red Bull and T-Mobile.
Henson says a newcomer to the Worst list is Geico, the insurer who made geckos famous but disappointed PTC by advertising on programs that are not family-friendly viewing.
Henson notes that in years past McDonald's has been on the Worst list but the fast food chain has trended in a more positive direction. So this year PTC has welcomed McDonald's to its Best list.
