A new documentary is shining the spotlight on Hollywood's failure to deal with the problem of child exploitation that has been permeating the industry for decades.
An Open Secret deals with the sexual exploitation of child actors. The documentary’s producer, Gabe Hoffman, says Hollywood is a very dangerous environment for children.
"This is the film that Hollywood doesn't want you to see,” Hoffman tells OneNewsNow. "You can be a convicted pedophile and still work in Hollywood, so we're trying to expose it and get convicted pedophiles out of Hollywood."
Hoffman adds that the film only reveals the tip of the iceberg when it comes the vulnerability of child actors.
"Hollywood doesn't do anywhere near enough to protect children from predators, and we show that in An Open Secret,” he says. “We also show some of the tactics that predators use and some of the warning signs that parents can look for to raise a red flag and perhaps provide protection from these predators before they harm their children."
Hoffman says even though they are focusing on Hollywood, pedophiles can be anywhere - making this film, he believes, a helpful tool for anyone in protecting children.
An Open Secret is being screened in select markets and will be available for purchase Spring 2016. The film is rated PG-13 due to the sensitive subject matter.
