gender confusionA conservative activist is raising warning flags after California announced plans to allow transgender men, housed in its state prisons, to be housed with women prisoners.

California is paying for surgery and medical treatments for transgender men, The Sacramento Bee reported earlier this month.

What that means, says Matt Barber, is there's a "public delusion" that is putting women at risk.

Barber, Matt (Liberty Counsel)He points to other troubling stories, including a man who dressed as a woman so he could photograph women in the bathroom stalls at a Wal-Mart.

In Toronto, he says, a man claiming to be a woman was allowed into a women's shelter. Reports soon came of women being assaulted.

But such stories didn't make it into an editorial by The Sacramento Bee, which admitted that each surgery for a transgendered inmate could cost $100,000.

There are 400 inmates receiving hormone therapy at $3,000 per inmate per year, the editorial stated.

The same editorial did note that California has fought the new rules for years.

There's no defense, Barber argues, for such "reckless and irresponsible behavior" by the State of California.

But the Bee disagreed.

"When it comes to the fight for basic rights and acceptance," the editorial preached, "few people have it tougher than transgender Americans."
