An open door: Taking the gospel to Cuba's youth

Sometimes God asks his people to do things that seem strange and unexplainable at the time. That certainly was the case with Tim Todd with Revival Fires International. In addition to conducting revivals across America, his Louisiana-based ministry publishes the Truth for Youth Bible.

Truth for Youth Bible 2018This week is National Truth for Youth Bible Week on American Family Radio. A free copy of the Truth for Youth Bible is being given away to every student between the ages of 13 and 18 who commits to passing it along to a friend in school.

Evangelist Tim Todd says: "I'm convinced that introducing young people to Jesus Christ is the only real solution to the senseless violence in our schools. When Bibles were in school, bullets were not. Giving 2.5 million Truth for Youth Bibles to America's youth has resulted in our ministry receiving more than 25,000 decision cards from young people giving their hearts to Christ!"

The Truth for Youth Bible consists of the entire New Testament and includes full-color graphic novels that present a Christian perspective on many of the issues that teens face – such as school violence, sexual purity, homosexuality, abortion, pornography, evolution, drugs, drunkenness, peer pressure, honor, suicide, bullying, sexting, cutting, the supernatural, and pluralism.

The campaign at American Family Radio wraps up on Friday, August 10.

"About two and a half years ago, the Holy Spirit laid on my heart to translate the Truth for Youth Bible into Cuban Spanish," he begins. "At that time I had no connection to Cuba at all."

He didn't lay out any fleeces. Instead, he contacted someone who knew Cuban Spanish and got to work. Only then did God start revealing the plan. "As I finished [the translation], the Holy Spirit opened up a door though a pastor for us to go to Cuba for the first time," he tells OneNewsNow.

Todd is sprinting through the open door. This weekend he will go to the communist island nation and start handing out the first of 1.4 million copies of Verdad para Jóvenes to young Cubans. And he's scheduled a youth rally in Cuba for August 11-20.

He and his wife actually smuggled 500 of the newly translated Bibles in last year. He says God miraculously got them through customs and led them to the exact people they needed to see.

"We get there to the first church [and meet] Pastor Miguel Fernandez, [who] used to be the Cuban Bible Council president," Todd recalls. "In that position, he was closely connected to Fidel Castro and Raul Castro and got to share the gospel with them on a regular basis. He is now the bishop over 400 churches in Cuba."

The evangelist continues the story: "He connected me with the Cuban Council of Churches and the Cuban Bible Council and the Ministry of Religious Affairs and put his stamp of approval on the distribution of [1.4 million copies of] the Truth for Youth Bible."

Here's the kicker: Since the U.S. trade embargo with Cuba is in effect, Todd couldn't ship the Bibles from the States – so he had them printed in China and shipped from there to Cuba.

In summary: Two of the last remaining communist countries in the world are helping bring the gospel to Cuba.
