A pro-family activist group has launched a petition against the popular online marketplace known as Etsy.
"Many of our supporters would be shocked to find out that Etsy is not only selling their craft items and handmade items, but they have decided not to remain family-friendly as far as an online store and website," says Monica Cole, director of One Million Moms. "Now they're selling adult-themed merchandise like you would find in a fantasy store."
According to an alert 1MM sent out to its supporters, Etsy's adult-themed offerings include graphic nude photos, "sex toys," and posters depicting couples engaged in sex. "It is disgusting that Etsy has made this decision," says the alert.
Adult-themed merchandise aside, Cole is concerned that someone may inadvertently stumble upon the images "because there is no warning whatsoever … and there's nothing left to the imagination – it's full pornography."
The petition from One Million Moms urges Etsy to return to its roots and original policies by asking that it sell only clean, family-friendly items – and third-party items only if vintage.
"We're also asking Etsy to remove all the pornographic images from their website immediately," Cole concludes.
