A new left-wing strategy against Trump

Starbucks signAn obscure left-wing group is pressuring major corporations to agree that President Donald Trump is a "white supremacist," but a right-wing organization sees a feeble attempt at name recognition.

"Starbucks and Nike have likely paid millions of dollars in rent to Trump over time, money that has given him a platform to spew hate for years," declares group UltraViolet on its website.

Claiming that President Trump is defending white supremacists and neo-Nazis, the organization is calling on Starbucks and Nike to end their leases at Trump Tower and other properties.

Patrice Lee Onwuka, senior fellow at the Independent Women's Forum, sees an attempt by UltraViolet to get some name recognition.

"This is not anything new," she says. "This 'resist' movement is looking at hitting anyone named Trump, and anything with the Trump affiliation, hitting them in the pocketbooks by trying to really shame other companies that they do business with out of working with them."

Even progressives, she says, consider the tactic ridiculous.

Left-wing claims of racism already dogged Trump last year due to his "America First" stance on illegal immigration, but the "white supremacist" claims come after Trump denounced left-wing rioters along with neo-Nazis in Chalottesville, after a woman was killed by a neo-Nazi who drove into marchers.

It's not a new left-wing tactic to brand the Right as racists: the Left that now praises George W. Bush often compared him to Hitler.
