A pro-family activist who works to expose the truth about homosexuality is outraged that the Illinois Republican Party allowed a radical homosexual rights group to sponsor one of its events at the GOP convention.
The Chicago Sun-Times reports that a group that calls itself "Equality Illinois" recently sponsored a social event at a hotel in Clearwater, Florida, where the Illinois GOP delegation is staying. Equality Illinois is a radical homosexual rights group that has condemned the Republican Party's pro-family platform and criticized Romney for allowing the "far right" to "hijack" the national party's platform on the issue of same-sex "marriage." The group has also led a crusade to try and rid The Prairie State of Chick-fil-A restaurants.
"This just goes to show you where the moderates, who are actually liberals in the Republican Party, want to take the party," decides Peter LaBarbera, founder and president of Americans for Truth About Homosexuality (AFTAH). "The liberals want the party to be pro-gay; they want it to be pro-abortion -- a lot like the Democratic Party, only better on fiscal issues."
LaBarbera is appalled at the attitude of the Illinois campaign manager for Mitt Romney, State Treasurer and former State Senator Dan Rutherford, who stated that if someone had a problem with the Equality Illinois sponsorship, "They can go elsewhere and drink."
"This was a dismissive comment by Dan Rutherford, who happens to be the most pro-gay leading Republican in the state," the AFTAH president notes. "He voted for the special rights law and the civil unions law. Rutherford is just more comfortable with homosexuality in the Republican Party. If that's the way the Republican Party's going to go, we're in big trouble"
But LaBarbera does not think the GOP in most places is as liberal as the Illinois delegation.
