Next up for AFL-CIO members: Pay your dues, endorse a ‘delusion’

The AFL-CIO has demonstrated again its penchant for forcing its members to support social causes whether they like it or not. This time it involves an issue at odds with most religious principles: sex-change surgery and therapy.

It’s not the first union to do so, but the AFL-CIO – America’s largest labor union – recently amended its constitution to allow transgender groups to organize under its banner. As The Washington Times notes, last week’s vote could result in mandated employee insurance coverage for such things as hormone therapy and sex-change surgery.

Barber, Matt (Liberty Counsel)Matt Barber, vice president of Liberty Counsel Action, tells OneNewsNow that that creates a dilemma for the majority of the union's members, forcing them "to endorse a delusion."

“Nobody is advocating that people who suffer from gender confusion be discriminated against willy-nilly,” he offers, “but certainly people who have traditional values and people who recognize biological reality should not be compelled to entertain an irrefutable biological delusion.”

Barber says that "so-called progressives” and the AFL-CIO are “trans-delusional.”

“Even Johns-Hopkins University, which was kind of at the forefront of so-called ‘gender reassignment’ surgeries, they have stopped doing those surgeries,” he points out. “And their head of that department has come out against these kinds of horrible, cosmetic, genital-mutilation surgeries, which is exactly what we're talking about.”

Barber contends under the revised constitution, AFL-CIO members in non-right-to-work states will be compelled to support the union's policy or find another job.
