With an extremely important election coming up, Christians are being called upon to participate in a special event.
A lot is at stake in the November election on national, state and local levels, and Christians are being asked to take part in 40 days of fasting and prayer leading up to the vote.
Appearing on Fox News, author Max Lucado explains the significance of 40 days.
"In the Bible, 40 days is just a picture of completeness," he says. "It's a picture of commitment. Jesus was 40 days in the wilderness. The Hebrews were 40 years in the wilderness. So it's just kind of a number that symbolizes Hey, we're serious about this."
The prayer event gets under way Friday, September 28.
"We're asking people to just begin praying every day for the country," says Lucado. "[There are] three things [to pray for]: unite our country, strengthen our country and appoint and anoint our next president. It's easy to remember; U.S.A."
Lucado points out that the event is not political or partisan in any way and that it does not matter who is in the White House, but who is on the throne.
