Judge agrees -- sex-change surgery medically necessary

Charlie Butts   (OneNewsNow.com) Wednesday, September 05, 2012

A federal judge in Massachusetts has ordered the state prison system to pay for a transgender inmate's sex-change operation.

Robert Kosilek, who now calls himself Michelle, has been receiving hormone treatments while serving a life sentence in an all-male prison for murdering his wife in 1990. Brian Camenker of MassResistance tells OneNewsNow this order comes from a judge who is no stranger to the conservative cause.

Camenker, Brian (MassResistance)"U.S. District Judge Mark Wolf is well known to pro-family people as the judge that ruled in the David Parker case that schools have a duty and an obligation to portray same-sex 'marriage' as the same as regular marriages and that parents have no right to object, even in elementary school," Camenker notes.

Kosilek sued the correctional department 12 years ago. Two years later, Judge Wolf ruled that the prisoner was entitled to treatment for gender-identity disorder. Kosilek sued again in 2005, arguing that the operation was a medical necessity.

"It's just nuts," the MassResistance director decides. "Now, of course the medical establishment describes this as gender-identity disorder, but apparently the judge has ignored that and decided to go with the politically correct Massachusetts approach to this kind of thing."

As for whether Kosilek will remain in a male prison or be transferred to a female unit, Camenker concludes that there is no answer, because "we don't know where this train is going."
