Urging campuses to welcome Jewish students

A California pro-Israel group is pushing for support for a study that recommends that universities be more welcoming to Jewish students.

A pro-Israel organization is asking that individuals stand behind a report that outlines the struggles and experiences of Jewish students on University of California campuses. It covers the climate Jewish students face, and it issues recommendations that would ensure that campuses are less hostile toward those students (see earlier story).

Seid, Roberta (StandWithUs)The pro-Israel organization StandWithUs is urging individuals to sign a petition supporting the report. Dr. Roberta Seid explains it is significant.

"We feel it's really important because it affects not only the tenor of campus life at the UC system, but also because the guidelines that were recommended can serve as a model for other schools across the country that have been troubled by anti-Israel and often crossing into anti-Semitic behavior on those campuses," she says.

So far, roughly 1,600 people have signed on to ask that the report be endorsed by the UC California President's Advisory Council on Campus Climate, Culture and Inclusion.
