A retired Army officer and national defense strategist has come up with a unique way to try to educate Americans about the danger posed by a nuclear-armed Iran.
Lt. Col. Ralph Peters (USA-Ret.) enlisted in the Army as a private and eventually attended Officer Candidate School to receive his commission. Much of his career in the Army was spent working in military intelligence. Now a full-time commentator and writer, Peters admits to frustration with the inability of himself and others to drive home the point to policymakers in Washington about how dangerous a prospect an Iran with nuclear weapons truly is. "President [Mahmoud] Ahmadinejad of Iran keeps saying that he wants to destroy Israel -- and Washington's response is, 'Oh, he doesn't really mean that.' Well, he does mean it," Peters says. "The hardcore clique of Muslim fanatics truly does want to destroy Israel." To drive that point home, Peters decided to write a novel -- The War After Armageddon. "I wrote the book to try to dramatize, to humanize the effects of what could happen," the author explains. "The book describes a worst-case scenario of all the things that could go wrong if Iran got nuclear weapons and used them." Peters argues that the world cannot allow Iran to have nuclear weapons.
