The head of the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission (ERLC) of the Southern Baptist Convention is calling for sanctions against Iran.

Richard LandDr. Richard Land says increased pressure is needed on Iran because of its nuclear program. Land is one of several religious leaders calling for sanctions that would target business contacts, such as banks, that work with Iran.

The ERLC president thinks it would be foolish for the United States and other nations to trust Iran, especially when it comes to the development of nuclear weapons. He feels the U.S. should pay attention to the interests of Israel.

Nuclear symbol"Israel, by its demography and geography, is a 'one atomic bomb state' -- [meaning] one atomic bomb would pretty much wipe out Israel," Land illustrates. "And so we have to be very, very careful that we don't allow the Iranians to lull us with their lies into a false sense of security."

In the past, Dr. Land has described Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad as a potential Hitler of the 21st century.
