In 2004, Ohioans encountered a ballot presenting the issue of homosexual marriage. The vote established that the constitutional amendment protects marriage between one man and one woman by 24 percent. However, Tyrone Yates, Ohio Democratic state representative, seeks to overturn the vote of the people.

Citizens for Community ValuesDavid Miller of Citizens for Community Values in Ohio said, “I think everybody knows that every state that has given the voters the opportunity to limit marriage has done so, and most by very significant margins. I think something else must be going on that he would try to bring this back if the voters of Maine and California fairly recently have expressed their will on this issue. I don't know where he thinks that Ohio would be willing to venture in that way again.”

A recent poll conducted by a homosexual organization found that the degree of support for traditional marriage in Ohio has actually increased since the election five years ago.
