Not another czar, but perhaps a 'dictator'?

doctor in handcuffsThe leader of a Christian medical group is warning that pending healthcare legislation in the U.S. House could establish the secretary of Health and Human Services as the new "healthcare dictator."

The Christian Medical & Dental Associations (CMDA) is calling the new Democrat-sponsored healthcare bill -- the Affordable Healthcare for America Act (H.R. 3962) -- an "overdose that threatens patient-physician relationship." CEO Dr. David Stevens says the 1,990-page bill does nothing to lower the cost of healthcare, but instead promotes government rationing of healthcare to those they deem worthwhile -- namely individuals between the ages of 15 and 45.

"Already we are hearing words about rationing from some of the president's senior healthcare advisors," notes Stevens, "including Ezekiel Emanuel, who states that we should be spending less on children up to the age of 15 because we haven't invested much in their education till that point, and then after 45 people's productivity drops."

David Stevens (CMDA)Stevens contends that the bill sets up Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius as "the healthcare dictator."

"And I use that word in the sense that she will dictate what gets paid for and what doesn't," he explains. "And the only way that you see any way in the bill...that cost is going to go down is they are just going to stop paying for certain things."

The House is scheduled to vote on H.R. 3962 sometime this week. According to the CMDA, 95 percent of faith-based physicians are ready to leave the medical field if enacted healthcare reform weakens their conscience rights -- such as the freedom to refuse to perform abortions based on their religious convictions.
