Arguing for personhood in The Silver State

NevadaNevada is one of the latest states to pursue a Personhood Amendment.

The citizen-led proposal would amend the state constitution to say the term "person" applies to every human being. Supporters argue that a modification is needed because some Nevadans are currently being deprived their inalienable civil rights. Richard Zisor, campaign manager for the Nevada Personhood movement, tells OneNewsNow more about the project.

"What this actually does is [it] allows us to protect life from the very beginning to the very end," he says.

And that, he says, is important in light of moves in Washington seeking to force taxpayer-funded abortion and federal involvement in end-of-life care.

"What we're doing is protecting the full spectrum of life with this amendment, [meaning] that you cannot take the life of a person unless they're given due process," determines Zisor. "And that makes it pretty difficult to do when you have it in your constitution."

Personhood Nevada will have to collect 97,000 signatures, or 10 percent of those who voted in the last general election. The goal, however, will be to collect more than that.
