cross in cuffs persecutionThe situation for Christians in Pakistan and Afghanistan appears to be worsening.

According to Open Doors USA, raids against Christians, carried out by the Taliban, have increased throughout Pakistan and Afghanistan. Dr. Carl Moeller, president of Open Doors USA, says the Taliban does not tolerate anyone who thinks or believes differently than they do. Christians are being evicted from their homes, he says, and some are being forced to convert to Islam or pay special taxes in exchange for protection.

Moeller says the situation for believers is often overlooked by politicians.

Carl Moeller"This is a social situation, this is a religious liberty issue," he explains, "and these people on the ground are not allowing Christians to practice their faith.

"You know the classic stories of the Taliban imposing extreme rules in society," he continues. "Men obligated to grow their beards, women only allowed to go outside if they're covered literally from head to toe in a burqa. These are human rights and religious liberty issues."

Moeller says Christians in Pakistan and Afghanistan need prayer. He also encourages Americans to be vocal about the injustices.
