Thanksgiving brings love in a box

More than 150,000 people in 13 cities will not go hungry this Thanksgiving thanks to one ministry and countless volunteers.

Here's Life Inner City is partnering with volunteers nationwide to pack and distribute boxes filled with ingredients for classic holiday meals. The initiative is called "Boxes of Love" as the effort seeks to offer physical and spiritual nourishment to hungry inner-city families.

Food 1Ted Gandy, national director of Here's Life Inner City, describes the contents of these packages.

"[The box] includes green beans, corn, rice, applesauce, or cranberry sauce." Gandy continues the list by adding "potatoes…stuffing, fruit cocktail, plus dessert and a meat, either turkey, ham or chicken."

Along with this extensive list, Gandy warns that the need this year is greater than that of recent years.

"I think there's so many people who are really hurting and needy out there that it's a real challenge to meet that need, and I think the ministries are also aware that this is an opportunity when people are in need, they're especially sensitive to how God can meet their need. They're open to people approaching them and helping them," he concludes.

Here's Life Inner City works with a number of partnering ministries. More than 25,000 "Boxes of Love" will be distributed Thanksgiving week in cities like Atlanta, Chicago, Detroit, Los Angeles, Orlando, and Seattle.
