Southern Baptists are helping those who have been hard hit by the typhoon that slammed into the Philippines last week.
Hundreds of people died after Tropical storm Ketsana struck the Philippines September 26. More than two-million people were forced out of their homes due to flooding. Linda Dillworth, a Southern Baptist field partner of Baptist Global Response, lives in the Philippines. She says relief has started to arrive. "Food packets have been given out, as well as other donations being received -- they've been able to buy blankets and other things that will help make this temporary time a little bit more pleasant," she shares. Dillworth says conditions are extreme in many areas. "There's many places, still, in the eastern part of metro Manila that are...underwater," she says. "There's [sic] a couple of churches we can't even get to because they're still underwater." More volunteers from the states are expected to arrive in the Philippines throughout the week.
