A Colorado-based ministry is helping those affected by tough economic times.
Biblica, formerly known as the International Bible Society, has launched a downloadable online resource called Employing Hope: Rebuilding Life When You've Lost Your Job. The resource features 20 short scripture readings and devotionals and an introduction that addresses the reality of unemployment while giving hope through God's Word. Sues Hyde, outreach director for the ministry, says there is a common theme to the site. "[It's] that God is still in control and that he cares for them, and he's walking this path with them," she suggests. "Each reading includes applicable comments to introduce the scripture text we've chosen for those readings, and then a time of reflection questions to help people think and not just gloss over the issues that they're facing." The online resource also features tips on balancing a household budget and ways to serve others and have a more economical life. It can be downloaded as a PDF file, or it can be emailed. "We are experiencing an economic crisis crisis unlike anything most of us have been equipped to handle," Hyde states in a press release. "People need hope and encouragement to remain emotionally and spiritually strong in these tough times. Our hope...is that they'll use these resources and find them helpful...."
