The Heritage Foundation recently held a series of conferences to explore how faith builds families.
The conference in Washington, DC, was called "Religious Practice and the Family: What the Research Says." Jessica Prol of The Heritage Foundation says the seminar, which took place on October 29, examined the correlation between intact, traditional families and the impact on religious practice. The assessment resulted in a wealth of research on the issue. "The research is showing that it is tied; it's hand-in-hand. And seeing that, especially for some denominations, there's kind of an ebb-and-flow," reports Prol. "As the family declines, so does church attendance and other aspects of religious involvement within our churches." According to Dr. Annette Mahoney, one of the participants, couples who identify with a specific faith and regularly attend religious services tend to be more satisfied with their marriages -- as do those who pray for each other, view their union as sacred, and participate in spritual activities that enhance communication. The conference was the third in a series sponsored by a grant from the John Templeton Foundation.
