A Southern Baptist leader is sounding a warning against blind acceptance of a deal on nuclear development between Iran and the United Nations.

Last week the United States, Russia, and France supported a proposal under which Iran would send most of its low-enriched uranium to Moscow for further processing.

Richard LandDr. Richard Land, president of the Southern Baptist Convention's Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission, feels that any agreement must be closely monitored.

"Well, I don't think we can trust the Iranians any farther than we can throw them," he cautions. "They are as bad as the Soviets used to be in terms of lying about agreements and saying one thing and doing something else.  I mean you're looking at the world's chief sponsor of terrorism in the Islamic regime in Iran."

Dr. Land is one of more than 50 Christian leaders to sign a letter to Congress, calling for a nuclear-free Iran.
