Pro-lifers fight to keep abortion clinic merely a blueprint

A Knoxville, Tennessee, pro-life coalition is fighting a new Planned Parenthood building project.

Planned ParenthoodAn existing Planned Parenthood facility does not do surgical abortions but does provide RU-486, a drug used to abort babies through nine weeks of gestation. The head of the local abortion clinic said there were no plans for surgical abortions at the new facility in the near future.

But Stacy Dunn of the Knoxville County chapter of Tennessee Right to Life tells OneNewsNow her organization is skeptical.

"So when we saw the plans for the proposed facility, we saw plans for four to six exam rooms and a recovery room, which indicated to us that the building would have the capability at some point to be used to do surgical abortions also," she explains.

Dunn's organization has begun organizing the community. "We first sent letters to the owner of the building, the leasing agent, and the contractor doing the work," she notes, "and so we've asked them to do what they can to stop this expansion."

She says that so far their subcontractors have pulled out of the project, putting their moral standards ahead of profit. Neighborhood residents are meeting to oppose it, while a major prayer rally is also set for this weekend.
