Movie board smallA well-known entertainment critic says vigilance from Christians has resulted in more family-friendly movies coming out of Hollywood.

Ted Baehr is founder of MovieGuide and chairman of the Christian Film & Television Commission. For more than 20 years, he has reviewed theatrical releases from a Christian perspective. He says while Hollywood still produces movies that are unsuitable for Christians, moviemakers are discovering a large market for films with a biblical message or theme.

"In the mid-80s when we were all getting upset about The Last Temptation of Christ, we did surveys. [In] most of the movies, if there was a Christian, he was the villain in Dr. Ted Baehr (MovieGuide)Poltergeist, [and] now he's the hero. So you've got some really positive changes," he points out. "I wish they would cut down on the violence, the foul language, and some other elements, and Disney has done that in their films."

According to Baehr, two recently released films with positive messages are Bolt and The Tale of Despereaux. Both of those animated features hit the theaters during the recent holiday season.
