Florida Family Association has claimed success in combating a vulgar television show that was being aired on MTV.
Association founder David Caton describes A Shot at Love with Tila Tequila. "[It] was a reality show that placed a bisexual female with ten lesbians and ten men who vied, under one household and one roof, for [her] affections," he says. At first, the show was aired 20 times a week on MTV -- but even before it began, Florida Family Association began lodging complaints with advertisers. "And we have 94 companies that we ultimately contacted who pulled off of the program," Caton points out. Some of those that pulled from the show were advertisers who have sponsored questionable projects in the past, and who felt Tequila was not a good choice. As the pro-family activists notes, without advertisers, MTV would find it difficult to justify raising the curtain again. The result? "They have pulled this program from the air. It's not running, and Tila Tequila has made it known, vis-à-vis what we believe is spinning news, saying that she's going to do something else," Caton explains. "She's tired of this and wants to move on." Proof positive, says Caton, that public pressure can make a difference.
